BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Sophia Leverson, MPH is the Executive Director of the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America - Central Alabama Chapter. Leverson earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology as well as her Master of Public Health from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Prior to becoming Executive Director in 2023, she served as an Epidemiologist at the Jefferson County Department of Health working to expand healthcare utilization and access across the county. During the COVID-19 pandemic she served on the Health Officer's team of subject matter experts and conducted epidemiological tracing. After the pandemic, Leverson served as a Clinical Data Analyst at Children's Hospital working to eliminate hospital acquired infections. As Executive Director, she plans to utilize her lifelong love of service and passion for health equity to improve the lives of all the Association's clients. Her goals include increasing engagement in services, and sickle cell education/advocacy across the Association's thirteen county service area.
